Stop Coal Seam Gas Rally at Putty 14 August 2011
16 Aug 11
Around 50 people gathered on a private property on Putty Road on Sunday 14 August to protest against Coal Seam Gas at Putty.
Armed with No Gas, Lock the Gate, Save the Wollemi, Save Putty Water and Stop Coal Seam Gas signs, Putty residents made their protest at the pollution to the pristine Putty environment, which the Coal Seam Gas Industry threatens.
The ABC sent a film crew by helicopter, which landed filming the group waving their signs defiantly. The footage of the protest rally went to air on ABC 2's 7 pm News Sunday night, also on Channel 7.
The community is concerned about Dart Energy plans to start drilling a core hole later this week 500 metres from the World Heritage Wollemi National Park and within the Hawkesbury catchment area.
This is the beginning of the industrialisation of a valley surrounded by internationally recognised wilderness areas.
The community has received legal advice that drilling may ultimately breach Section 41 of the National Parks & Wildlife Act 1974.
Putty Community Association CSG Subcommittee has acted swiftly to inform the Government, providing this information to the Minister for the Environment Robyn Parker...and, of course the Pemier.
