Bush Fire Danger Period

The Bush Fire Danger Period in the Hunter Area runs from 1st September to 31st March of the following year unless a change to this is notified.  During this period, Permits to Burn are required. You can obtain a permit from the Putty Rural Fire Brigade.

Fire Permit Officers
North: Tim Spooner 0418 299 377
Central & South: Kenn Mackett 0401 535 575 and Kimberley Stokes 0488 692 459

On days where the fire danger rating is very high or above, fire permits will be suspended and permit holders will be advised accordingly.

Before Lighting a Fire
Before lighting your fire, you will need to

  • Prepare a containment area so that your fire does not escape your property
  • Notify your neighbours and Fire Control on 6575 1200 – 24 hours before you light up your intended fire
  • Register your burn online or via the Permit Line 02 65751212.

Even when it is not Bush Fire Danger Period, April to August, these conditions still apply.

Never leave a fire unattended and if a fire does escape, it is essential to call 000 immediately so that emergency services can respond effectively to minimise any possible damage.

On days of a TOTAL FIRE BAN, no fire of any nature is to be lit in the open. To check the Fire Danger Ratings for your area or for any other information visit NSW Rural Fire Service

Clothing
When attending a fire, always wear full protective clothing, gloves, heavy shoes, goggles and a hat and have a means of controlling your fire such as water and machinery.
