A large number of friends gathered at the home of Bruce and Dixie Mott to farewell them as they leave Putty to make a new home at North Richmond. After much feasting and drinking and sharing of good wishes, a bit of sadness was felt during the afternoon as Bruce and Dixie will be very much missed in Putty.
Bruce and Dixie left their home in Baulkham Hills in May 2002 to spend the next twenty three years in Putty. Bruce, the brickie, was well known throughout Putty for his brickwork. Whether a big or small job, it was all done to perfection. At Putty Hall, Bruce did the brickwork for the secure storeroom, giving important and definite instructions to those mixing the mud, too wet, too dry, never quite right!!
At every Putty Fair, Dixie could be seen in the hall kitchen making scones for the Devonshire Teas. Dixie describes herself as a “scintillating conversationist” and those in the kitchen with her would have to agree. When asked to “bring a plate” to a function she always brought potato salad with the special brand mayonnaise she insisted upon.
Over a number of years, Bruce, along with Dixie as offsider, and a bit of a hand from willing helpers, built their big family house on the hill, brick by brick. They saw it to completion but unfortunately due to ill health they have had to make the decision to move to another home where they are closer to medical facilities.
Bruce and Dixie often came to the Friday Night Socials at Putty Hall to share a meal and chat with their Putty friends. People who know them thank them for their friendship and wish them well in their years ahead.
