The Putty Community Association is an incorporated association which grew out of the Putty Social Committee which was formed on 8th February, 1986.
As stated in its constitution, its aims are
(a) to provide for the social, religious and public needs of the residents of Putty ( whether or not members of this association), and
(b) to promote and foster community spirit and friendship within the district, and
(c) to provide a place of meeting at the Putty Community Hall of a suitable standard to achieve those objectives, and
(d) to ensure that the Putty Hall is managed at all times in a manner consistent with the provisions of the trust under which the Putty Hall is held, subject to the Rules of the Association.
Since 2012 it has held the Putty Hall in trust for the people of Putty. As trustee it is responsible for the maintenance, insurance, fire safety, communications and electricity supply for the hall. Recent upgrades have made the hall compliant with requirements for an evacuation centre in times of disaster. This has added to the hall’s functions as a social meeting place, religious meeting place, venue for education days and a setting for residents to hold private funtions.
So an important reason to join the PCA is to help maintain this vital community asset. Although membership fees are only a minor contribution to the cost of maintaining the hall, in these times of increasing costs every bit helps. Being a member of the PCA also allows input of ideas into running the hall and improvement of its capacity to serve its varied functions. The PCA has committee, and sub committees for Spring Fair organisation, and is always glad for members with fresh ideas for committee positions.
The PCA routinely makes representations to Local Government and State Government agencies as well as private companies like Telstra about service provisions and upgrades for the Putty area. Those representations carry more weight when made by a community group with a large membership. Again the PCA benefits from the range of ideas and skills that members can bring to those representations. This increases the validity of the requests and their chance of success. In a world where small communities struggle to be heard we need every competitive advantage.
Membership of the PCA comes with no responsibilities, you can be as involved or uninvolved as you wish. Permanent and part time residents are equally welcome. All you really need is a desire to contribute to community ideas and objectives for Putty.
So bring your ideas and skills to strengthen the PCA as a voice to make Putty a safer and better place to live and visit, while maintaining its unique character. Help to ensure the hall is there as a social hub in the good times and a place of shelter and safety when disaster strikes.
If that all sounds too good to be true for a $20.00 annual membership fee, you can always add a donation. Bank account details are BSB 062-622 A/c # 1044 4988. Please attach a description to your payment like “J Smith mship x 2 + donation”
